The Reeve's Tale.

Alright, so now that all the excitement and heartache of last week is over I was able to sit down, relax, and READ.  Well, I hadn't had much time to read The Canterbury Tales so I took off from where I set down.  And to be honest, I was pretty bored by the general prologue.  I thought I was NEVER going to get through it.
Of course I did though, I went through The Knight's Tale and thought that was going to be my favorite because he told a Greek tale and well... I love the old Greek tales.  I have to say though, The Miller's Tale kind of stole my heart.  Granted the carpenter's wife and friend are a couple of bigots.  I thought it was hilarious when Alison stuck her arse-love that word-out the window for that man to kiss!  It was disgusting, but hilariously disgusting.
The Reeve's Tale, my God I hate it.  I can't even tell what they're saying half the time and when I can I translate it into proper English in my head.  The grammar is atrocious.  God awful, I want to reach into the book and beat those men with rakes for how badly they're speaking.  I swear, if I wasn't so insistent on reading this thing from cover to cover I'd skip this stupid tale.  There is just no way this one will win the prize at the end.  It's to stupid. Stupid.stupid.stupid. Harumph.

P.S. I'm sure some of you are wanting an update on Coco: I stayed home from school to help mom load her into the car.  The vet said she doesn't have anything broken, but they'll have to keep her a minimum of a week and possibly up to three weeks.

"Have you forgot the old philosophic saw
That goes like this, 'All is fair in love and war'?
Love is a mightier law, upon my soul,
Than any made by any mortal rule;"
-The Knights Tale, The Canterbury Tales by Geoffrey Chaucer

  1. Ah, don't be too harsh on the old reeve.... those folks had a very different perspective on language!

  2. It wasn't his language, it was the characters in his story that were bothering me.

  3. Oh, well, half the stories were pretty irksome.... I particularly disliked the Pardoners Tale and really hated the Prioress' Tale (The Jew's Daughter). Life really was very harsh back then. Still is, in places.

  4. Wow. I have TOTALLY forgotten about the Canterbury Tales! It was something we had to read in high school and "analyze." Are you doing this JUST FOR FUN? If so, I think someone should lodge a formal complaint to the department for proper behavior of red-blooded teenage girls.
